The National Internship Program (USP) was launched by the Human Resources Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye to ensure that young people can benefit from internship opportunities offered by public institutions and private sector organizations within the framework of equal opportunities and merit-based principles.

Through the Program, it is aimed to increase the employability of young people through a transparent, traceable, and innovative assessment method, support equal opportunities in accessing career opportunities, and expand internship opportunities beyond technical departments that require mandatory internships to include students from all fields of study.

In 2022, the scope of the National Internship Program was expanded to include students enrolled in vocational and technical secondary education institutions, with the aim of helping meet the human resources needs of SMEs and supporting the employability of students receiving vocational and technical education.

Students who apply to the Program are assessed based on their academic/vocational, artistic/social, and sporting competency scores, taking into account their performance throughout their education, their efforts to improve their skills, and their achievements.

Employers, on the other hand, send internship offers to students based on their scores in these competency areas without having access to the students’ personal identification information.

In addition to its success in Türkiye, the Program has also attracted international attention and has twice been recognized by the OECD as a good practice and an example for its member countries. The Program has given many young people at the beginning of their professional lives the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace while they are still students and to shape their career paths.
